The process of assimilation of our culture, what we know today as popular crafts or traditional crafts, contains wide evidence of the combination of various European, Oriental, African and indigenous elements.

Not only in colonial times were artistic influences received, but throughout the history of Mexico, crafts are constantly influenced by other cultures.

This is how our cultural heritage is enriched, with a great variety of handicraft products such as ceramics, silverware, cabinetmaking, tule and palm fabrics, feather art, textiles, goldsmithing and cardboard, among others.

Cardboard making is the art of creating polychrome and rubberized cardboard figures, with an application of traditional techniques and finishes, using cardboard or paper, soaked or cut in strip, vegetable glue or paste, anilines, as well as white from Spain or plaster, to whiten them and make them resistant.

Sometimes the artisans work with molds or frameworks of reed or wire strips to make various objects.

The thirty-four works that this wonderful exhibition has are the result of the participation of 70 artisans in the Mexican Cardboard workshop, held in the state of Morelos in 2019 and, thanks to the efforts of the Secretariat of Tourism and Culture of Morelos in coordination with the Morelense Museum of Popular Art and the organizing committee, managed to bring together 16 states of the Mexican Republic: Aguascalientes, Mexico City, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Zacatecas.

Through these important activities, the Government of the State of Morelos recognizes and honors the talent of the popular artists of Morelos and the country.
